Introduction

The Guidance Merger project is a Leonardo pilot project, which aims to produce tools and
methodologies to strengthen the links between the work of advice and guidance
counsellors and employers. The project also aims to improve the availability of advice and guidance for those in employment.

The tools and methodologies will also aim to link the role of the social partners and other intermediate organisations in providing advice and guidance and access to education and training.

The project aims to firstly review and evaluate existing methodologies of work, training
and existing products and tools to establish good practice in the field.

The project begins with 3 main assumptions:
  • That guidance can make a major contribution to the development of lifelong
learning for those within employment by encouraging those in employment to
    take up learning opportunities
  • That guidance is not always easily accessible to those in employment as for
    example those who are unemployed
  • For advice and guidance to make a contribution to the development of lifelong
learning within employment, it is essential that advice and guidance is not
    provided in isolation
